Kudos
to Phyllis Buzinni and her family for celebrating their 25th
anniversary in business at Alaska Silk Pies. July marks their 25 years
in business. According to Phyllis, her mail order dessert business
started with a gentleman, visiting Alaska on a Princess Rail Tour,
who sampled the silk pie on his Denali visit. This customer wanted
more.
The visitor encouraged Phyllis to work with Fed Ex and one thing led
to another and she is now celebrating 25 years in the mail order
business. Alaska Silk Pies, now located near Sea Tac is the "go to
place" to meet when traveling to and from Alaska, so it is natural to
have an anniversary celebration on July 1st at the bakery.
In celebration they will have hourly door prizes, treats to sample
and special chocolate desserts that are only available for purchase at
the bakery. And yes, like most of our specialty food producers - are
even incorporating a signature dessert with a micro-brew ingredient
called, Rockfish Porter Beer. As a company with customers all over
the US and still a strong Alaska following, Phyllis is offering a
special 25% discount on all desserts for 25 hours for those celebrating
at home.
We want to wish Phyllis and her family a genuine salute for doing
a remarkable job and sustaining their business, at the same time
sustaining and growing their professional and personal relationships.
Her invitation to customers to come to the bakery is genuine. She
nurtures the relationships whether it be the TV food stars/producers who
regularly visit her bakery or the individual Alaskans who are just
curious about the secret of the silk.
Phyllis was always high spirited and enthusiastic about her business,
but not at the exclusion of what others around her were also
experiencing. She created a community around her business and became
part of many other communities, as a result. She was one of the first
food producers that called me for help so many years ago. It was tough
in Alaska as she had very few colleagues producing food. There was
very limited infrastructure to help. She told her story at Global Food
Alaska (2007) and while she moved rapidly over her history in business,
the theme was clear. It was not all a silk road. She was one of
many who inspired Global Food Collaborative - to better connect food
producers for their sustainability. So, beyond the silk desserts I
have tasted - thank you Phyllis for showing the way.
Want to wish Phyllis your own congratulations?
